About
History
The story of Regen Network began with a deep interest in regenerative economics and sustainable practices. This interest led to a significant milestone when the team secured a Cosmos SDK contract, establishing the technical foundation for their vision.
During this early period, the team played a pioneering role in the ecosystem by coining the term "ReFi" and establishing early leadership in the regenerative finance movement. The project gained significant traction, culminating in a private token sale in 2019 that attracted approximately 400 participants.
A major breakthrough came with the sale of credits to Microsoft, which demonstrated the real-world utility of the platform. This success contributed to higher token prices, though like many projects, Regen Network was subject to the broader crypto market cycles.
The project then underwent a liquidity bootstrapping event, but challenges emerged as a disconnect developed between the token and ecocredits — both in reality and perception. The token, which had started at a high point, experienced a prolonged descent. This decline was exacerbated by a lack of community stewardship over the token and high inflation rates.
During this period, the team engaged in collaborative work with BlockScience to analyze and improve the system. A turning point came when Jeff made a recommendation regarding Max's stewardship of this working group — marking a new chapter in Regen Network's journey toward achieving its regenerative goals.
